Download – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reboot Alpha Free on PS4 This Weekend
It’s a good day for Call of Duty fans today, as an open alpha of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot has been made available on PS4. If you own a PlayStation 4, you can download and play the alpha for free through this weekend.
The download, around 37GB large, is free for all PS4 users and does not require a PS Plus subscription. Players will only have access to the new 2v2 Gunfight game mode, however, with the rest of the game likely reserved for the beta slated for a September outing and, of course, the final release penned in for October 25.
The lone mode you’ll be playing in the 2v2 Alpha is – from its namesake – a four-player, two-versus-two Multiplayer match.
The object of this game is to eliminate the opposing duo, with every player getting the same loadout that changes every two rounds along with where each team spawns.
If neither team is defeated at the end of the time limit, a flag spawns and a 10-second overtime begins. The team that captures this flag – which takes three seconds to capture – or the team to wipe out their opposition wins the round.Description of the new Gunfight game mode from Activision’s official announcement
With the betas likely to only be available to those who pre-order the game, this may be the only chance fans get to try the game out for free. Both the content no offer in the alpha and the time for which it will remain live are limited, but it should be enough to get a feel of the base game.
The original Modern Warfare is undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed iterations of the CoD franchise, so there are a lot of expectations attached to the reboot. It’ll be interesting to see how the game finds its place in the modern shooter space currently dominated by battle royale titles. We’ll find out soon enough.
The alpha was made available on Friday, August 23 and concludes on Sunday, August 25. You can download it from the PlayStation Store right now.
