Download: Tomb Raider (2013) Goes Free in the Name of Social Distancing

As the world prepares itself to combat the global COVID-19 outbreak with social distancing, many are likely to find themselves looking for new ways to pass their time. While introverts like myself would be more than happy to contribute ideas, some companies have already begun contributing to the cause, including a number of video game publishers.

The latest to join in is Square Enix, with the studio having made two Tomb Raider games free to download on PC through Steam. You’ll have to hurry, though, since the offer is only valid till Monday, March 23. All you need to do is add both games to your library and you’ll be able to download and play them for free indefinitely.

The first and likely the more popular of the two is 2013’s Tomb Raider, the series reboot that brought more maturity to the franchise and reworked protagonist Lara Croft’s character for modern times. The action-adventure game received favorable to stellar reviews from critics and consumers alike. If you’re on the hunt for a single-player experience that ticks all the boxes, you can’t go wrong with this one. If you’d rather go for one of the more recent entries in the series, you’ll be happy to know that Steam has both sequels heavily discounted right now. Rise of the Tomb Raider is selling for a meager $9 while Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is down to $19.58 as well.

The second free offering, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, isn’t one to sleep on either. The arcade-style Tomb Raider spin-off, the second in its series, plays from an isometric perspective and features co-op play for up to four players, each controlling a unique character, including Lara Croft herself, of course. If you liked the first game in the series, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, you’ll likely have a blast with this one as well.

Once again, the offer won’t last forever. We’d suggest adding both games to your library right now.
