How to Respec or Reset Skills and Perks in The Outer Worlds

Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds became an instant hit following its release a week ago, with the game owing much of its success to its diverse and at times charming ensemble of virtual characters. It isn’t a lengthy game, especially for an RPG, but with so many choices to guide its branching story and a significant number of quests to complete, you may be forgiven for missing a thing or two.

For instance, you may have missed how to refund all the points you’ve invested in Skills and Perks. Like many other games of this ilk, The Outer Worlds allows you to respec your character and crew, and the procedure is quite simple.

Here’s what you need to do.

1. Enter or Fast Travel to your ship, The Unreliable.

2. As you enter, turn to the left and climb up the ladder on the far side.

3. At the top of the ladder, look leftward to spot a metal bench at the end of the platform with what looks like a futuristic sewing machine on top. Walk up to it and interact with the machine.

4. The game will now ask for 500 bits to refund all your Skill and Perk points. Each future refund will cost twice as much as the last. Your next refund, for example, will cost you a 1000 bits.

Note that this will undo points invested in all Perks, including those of your crew members (Parvati, SAM). As for the cost of the refund, it’s quite cheap, especially if you find the need to avail one later in the game, which is when one usually feels the need to switch things up.
