How To Fix No Sound / Muted Audio Issue In Facebook Live Videos

Facebook’s video platform has grown by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years, with the most noticeable addition to the space being live videos. The social network’s growing focus on the video medium is an indication of its popularity amongst users. It would be safe to say that the average Facebook user may be spending more time consuming video content than anything else. There is a reason video game live streamers have begun considering Facebook as a viable alternative to the likes of Twitch and YouTube Gaming.

If you too find yourself returning to Facebook for the videos, you might have come across an issue that causes just the live variety to lose audio. We, of course, have a fix for you, and a simple one at that, but before we get to that, please ensure that it applies to you, as we wouldn’t want to waste all your time here and miss the rest of your live video. We came across the issue on Windows, using a dual-channel (stereo) headset while browsing Facebook on Google Chrome, finding that audio was working fine for all videos across the social network except for the ones that were live. If this sounds more or less like the problem you’re having, try the following potential fixes.

Turn Off Spatial Sound

1. Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray to the right of the Windows Taskbar.

2. Select Spatial sound and ensure that it is set to Off.

3. Return to your browser, refresh Facebook, and play the live video again.

If Spatial sound was already disabled or disabling it failed to solve the problem, give the fix below a go.

Switch To Stereo Output

1. Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray to the right of the Windows Taskbar.

2. Select Playback devices.

3. Find your playback device in the list that follows, right-click it and select Configure.

4. In the Configure dialogue, select the Stereo option and hit Next till the configuration is done.
