Here’s What Thor Looks Like in God of War: Ragnarok

Yesterday’s PlayStation showcase marks the first time we were given a good look at the highly anticipated God of War: Ragnarok, in the game’s first full trailer. Among the big reveals in the trailer were Tyr, the Norse god of war, and for the first time, Thor’s voice, though we didn’t get to see the god of thunder, at least not until later in the day.

In the final minutes of the showcase, game director Eric Williams offered up some extra details as to the game’s take on Thor, describing it as being truer to Norse mythos and, consequently, very different from the “hunky Australian” moviegoers are used to seeing in the MCU. The game’s version of Thor is a “big, burly, almost hedonistic man-child” with red hair, added Williams. A few hours later, expectant fans were able to see how that translates visually. Sony Santa Monica Art Director Raf Grassetti shared a collection of images to social media showcasing designs for various character’s in the game, including Thor.

Thor has been voiced by Ryan Hurst, best known for having played Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy and, recently, Beta in The Walking Dead. The American actor has other voice acting credits as well. Most notably, he voiced Lobo in 2020’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow. You can listen to his take on Thor in the God of War: Ragnarok trailer, embedded below.

The game was initially penned in for a 2021 release, but the studio recently announced that it had been pushed back to 2022. It will be released to both the PS4 and PS5, and will mark the end of the series’ Norse chapter.
