16+ Best Windows 10 Custom Themes [2018 Edition]
Windows 10 is, as this article is being written, a little over three years old, and although Microsoft has added a few new features to the desktop OS since its maiden release, the visuals have remained the same. 2016’s Anniversary Update did see the addition of a dark theme for UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps, but heavier system-wide customization still requires users to take unorthodox routes, the most popular of which would be custom visual styles.
There weren’t many third-party themes available for Windows 10 in the first year following its release, but things have sped up quite a bit since then. More designers seem to have hopped onto the Windows 10 theming bandwagon, offering a greater variety of visual styles. Of course, having a larger repertoire of skins to choose from also means it is now harder to find the best ones, which is why we decided to create yet another compilation of the same.
Note: You have to patch your system to apply custom themes. If you’re looking for help with the process, follow our guide on how to install third-party themes on Windows 10. We’ll try to keep this list updated with themes for the latest build of Windows 10. Be sure to check each theme’s compatibility (mentioned in its description) with the Windows 10 build that your PC is running. To check your Windows 10 build number, press the Windows and R keys together to bring up the Run dialogue box and enter “winver”.
At the time of this writing, the latest build is 1709 (called Fall Creators Update – often shortened to “Fall Update” or “FCU”). Most of the themes included here are compatible with the latest build or the 1703 (Creators Update) build that came before it. Designers have confirmed that themes working for the latter should continue to work with the Fall Creators Update. As always, though, we’d advise caution.
Whatever you decide – and we can’t stress this enough – do not forget to create a restore point. Do it now, before you download any of the below.
