PaperGram Auto-Switches Your iPhone Wallpaper With Instagram Photos
If you own an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and are fond of customization, in particular, of the cosmetic kind, there’s a chance you’ve spent a fair amount of time hunting for new wallpapers. While some might actually enjoy browsing through countless images on the web for the right background, others would prefer having the whole process automated, from the downloading of the wallpaper to its application.
That’s exactly what PaperGram does. This free jailbreak tweak for iOS 9 periodically fetches an image from Instagram feeds of your choice and sets it as your wallpaper. All you have to do is specify one or more Instagram accounts you think would serve as good sources of wallpapers and the tweak will take care of the rest.
You can choose to have separate Instagram feeds cycling wallpapers on the Home and Lock screens. The feeds will, of course, have to be public, and most wallpaper-worthy ones are. These aren’t hard to find either. A short trip to the Instagram app’s Explore section should yield a couple good sources.
The tweak can be set up from the configuration menu it adds to the Settings app. Apart from entering feed usernames, which have to be separated by commas if you’re entering more than one, said menu will let you disable the tweak for either or both screens, set the tweak to download wallpapers over WiFi only, choose to have images resized to avoid cropping or fetched in random order, and select the interval after which PaperGram fetches new wallpapers. The options range from a minute to three hours, with the default setting being five minutes.
You can even have the username and caption of each fetched image embedded in the wallpaper with the Embed Username option, which is enabled by default. At the bottom of the menu, there’s a Manual Reload section for those times the tweak sets a wallpaper you don’t fancy.
If you’d prefer being able to manually move on to the next image without having to jump into Settings, you can make use of the tweak’s Activator integration. You can also restrict the tweak to manual activation by setting the Activate Every… option to Never. If you’re new to Activator, the whole thing might take you a few minutes to set up, though the process is quite simple. You’ll need to install Activator from Cydia, launch Settings, navigate to Activator > Anywhere, select an activation gesture of choice and map it to PaperGram in the screen that follows. Note that the time it takes for the tweak to switch your wallpaper after you activate it with a gesture will vary depending on your internet connection. The tweak offers a Show Progress HUD option for this purpose.
PaperGram is available for free on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Go give it a try!
