New World System Requirements | Can Your PC Run It?
Amazon Games’ foray into the MMORPG space, New World, has been making some big pre-release waves out there. While the studio’s maiden release, a faux-MOBA game called Crucible, fell flat owing to an incongruous mix of gameplay elements and was cancelled only five months after its release. This time around, however, it seems they may finally be onto something.
The game’s closed beta, made available as a pre-order perk, hit a peak of over 200,000 concurrent players on Steam last weekend, with many having to wait in queue to get into one of the game’s servers. New World isn’t the lightest game, especially compared to the average MMO. Its visually rich world comes at a price, of course. In fact, there have been several reports of graphic cards, specifically EVGA’s RTX 3090, overheating or outright dying while running the game, though it is still unclear if the game is solely to blame. GPU Overheating and Failure
As mentioned earlier, the game’s closed beta seems to have been a prime suspect in the overheating of several high-end GPUs and the untimely death of a few EVGA RTX 3090 cards. Amazon, however, insists that the issue isn’t rampant.
“New World makes standard DirectX calls as provided by the Windows API. We have seen no indication of widespread issues with 3090s, either in the beta or during our many months of alpha testing,” reads a statement by the studio.
Just to allay any fears of future faults, the company did release a patch to limit the framerate in menus as a way to reduce load on the GPU. EVGA too promises to replace all its impacted RTX 3090 cards.
New World Release Date
New World is penned in for a September 28, 2021 release on PC via Steam. The official New World account on Twitter confirmed that there are “no plans” for a console release at this time.
