Dota 2: How to Disable Nemestice (Battle Pass) Animation on Main Menu

After a one-year hiatus brought about by the pandemic, the 10th edition of The International – Dota 2 Championships is finally gearing up to get started, albeit shakily. Valve is still in the process of hashing out the viability of holding the tournament in Sweden with the country’s authorities, though regional qualifiers are now underway.

Valve has also made available a new TI10 Battle Pass with the usual set of awards and challenges as well as a new limited-time game mode for everyone called Nemestice. As is usually the case, the game’s main menu has been embellished with a big animated splash for the new mode. Apparently, it has been causing the game to stutter and drop frames on the main menu for some players, especially those with entry-level systems. Fortunately, there is a way to disable it. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Launch Steam and switch to its Library tab.

2. In the list on the left, right-click Dota 2 and select Properties.

3. Select the General section from the left of the Properties window and in the text field under Launch Options on the right, type in “+map_enable_background_maps 0” (without quotes).

Note: If you have any other launch options added beforehand, simply enter a space after these and type in the new command.

4. Launch Dota 2.

The main menu should now have a solid black background with the Nemestice logo on top. More importantly, you’ll notice a significant improvement in FPS on the main menu if your system was struggling before.
